Updating Translations as a Translator

General:

  • Translators should make sure all translations are filled out and verified.  Any unverified translations can be updated by clicking the verify icon button to the right of the translation.  An unverified translation might indicate that the original translation changed, so make sure you double check that the translation is still correct or update it.  Other QA issues will also be flagged to the right of the translation, and can be ignored there as well, if the QA flag is incorrect.

  • Translators should be sure to never add line breaks to the translations.  There is no need to press enter within a translation.

Filtering:

  • If you want to check or update a specific translation you can search for it in the search bar at the top right.  This should find both keys and translations containing the search text.

  • If you want to filter for all untranslated or unverified translations or translations with QA errors, you can do so with the filter drop down at the top left.  It might be helpful for translators to check these.
  • These filters can also be applied when clicking on the “WORDS TO DO” count, or the “UNVERIFIED” count from the projects page.

Handling Placeholders:

  • Some translations contain placeholder text, such as: “Documented distribution data for {{name}} not available for display”
    • In this case, {{name}} is the placeholder representing the name of the region being excluded.
    • Lokalise may show the placeholder text as an oval containing the text “1:name”.  Hovering over the oval should reveal the text “{{name}}”.
    • Notice that when entering a translation for a value containing a placeholder, the “missing elements” are listed underneath the translation and when you come to the part of the translation where the placeholder should go, you can either enter the placeholder, surrounded by curly braces, or you can click on the missing element tag listed below.
    • If you don’t enter placeholders for translation that should contain placeholders, the translation will be flagged with a placeholder mismatch icon to the right of the translation.
